There are numerous teachers within high school that were essential to my academic growth and experience. Mrs. Franco, Mr. Millette, and Mrs. Rollins are the three top-notch teachers that propelled me forward and gave me the best academic experience I could have at high school. For the longest time I thought that I would not be able to go to a university or college, but these three teachers showed me a way and gave me encouragement where others did not. Mrs. Franco introduced me to philosophy; which to this day I have studied and thoroughly enjoyed. Mr. Millette was a great supporter and conversationalist when it concerns politics. Mrs. Rollins improved my writing skills and allowed me to write on topics that are particularly challenging.
Mrs. Franco was such a great teacher that I requested her for my Sophomore year after having her for my Freshman year. She was hands-on, motivated, active, and kind. She introduced to me and the others in the class things that were beyond school curriculum. She brought in examples from periods of time in our textbooks, she put us in Socratic method discussions, and she introduced us to many things from her own past that was in correlation to the Ancients. For instance, she has sung versions of songs to us that were sung by monks one thousand years ago. It was very impressive to all of us.
Mr. Millette teaches at a different school from Mrs. Franco but, in all honesty, they would have been a great team. Both of them are social science teachers that adore history. Mr. Millette was well versed in political history. That was great for me since I was and am very much into political history, theory, and application. We had many discussions on Soviet politics and practice. He brought in samples of Soviet-era toilet paper and other assorted items. Not that I needed the motivation to be interested in a history class, he also made the class very interesting.
Mrs. Rollins gave me a lot of encouragement in my writing. When I was in her Junior year English class I wasn't very sure of my writing abilities, but Mrs. Rollins pushed me forwards. She allowed and encouraged me writing a research paper on the philosophical implications of love within Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. She enjoyed the paper and so did I. When I graduated, despite graduating at a different school, she visited me to congratulate me. I write a lot of poetry and she eagerly read it. That meant a lot to me and it spurred me further on in writing. She has been very important to my growth in writing.
Other teachers have influenced me positively but the three teachers mentioned, Mrs. Franco, Mr. Millette, and Mrs. Rollins, have influenced me but they have more importantly helped me move forwards. They challenged me, they helped me, they encouraged me, and they walked beside me. Not many teachers can boast that type of dedication. I can honestly say that these teachers are part of the reason that I am going to a university. That is something that makes me, in my mind, indebted to them for a long time. MA-
